Pharmaceutical Institute Launches New Training Resources Focused on Employers and Retail Pharmacy
  
RALEIGH, N.C. (February 17, 2010)—Pharmaceutical Institute, a leading provider of specialized training solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, today announced the launch of two new e-courses, titled Employers and Retail Pharmacy.  The courses, developed in partnership with subject-matter experts from Campbell Alliance, are the newest additions to the company’s Managed Markets Excellence Series, a comprehensive series of e-courses designed to fill the critical need for basic and advanced managed markets knowledge for commercial professionals.

“As the payer landscape continues to evolve, it is important that commercial teams fully understand the managed markets channels and key stakeholders that have the largest impact on their business,” says Garry O’Grady, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Pharmaceutical Institute.  “Those manufacturers with commercial teams that understand the landscape and dynamics of these channels will be able to optimize portfolio performance within them.”

The Employers e-course will help team members understand the evolution and current market landscape for employer-sponsored health insurance in the US.  The course explores the challenges to the viability of this system posed by escalating healthcare costs.  The course then provides team members with an overview of the benefit design process, including the influence of stakeholders such as pharmacy benefit managers, brokers, and consultants.  The course also examines innovative approaches to benefit design that employers are adopting in order to bring healthcare expenditures under control.  Finally, the course examines ways in which pharmaceutical manufacturers can establish solid relationships with employers.

The Retail Pharmacy e-course outlines the key pharmacy channel stakeholders, the flow of drugs and dollars among those entities, and the significance of the retail pharmacy sector.  The course then explains retail pharmacy dynamics and what happens in the pharmacy, from the prescription to the patient receiving their medications, and who influences that process.  The course concludes with opportunities and approaches for representatives to better partner with pharmacies.
